Adenium obesum (Desert Rose) propagation

I am trying to root a stem cutting in a clay pot filled with moist gravel with morning sun, 10 weeks, no roots yet but still looks healthy. Are seeds the only option for a desert rose? I found this by Googling for propagating your plant, Maybe this will help. Perhaps you could dip your cutting in rooting hormone and see what happens. The pictures showed cuttings in what looks like maybe a cactus mix, there was more substance to it than just gravel. "Propagation of Adenium Obesum is very simple by taking cuttings and allowing them the wound to callous over for a couple of days and then inserting the cuttings into a rooting medium and keeping it out of full sun while it roots. Because the plant when cut exudes a milky sap that could be harmful you should wear gardening gloves to protect your hands and even protective goggles, better safe than sorry." I was thinking that I'd really like one of these plants but see that are very poisonous. Not that I make it a habit of gnawing on my house plants but I have a 20 year old cat that will occasionally chew on my asparagus fern when the fronds start to reach the floor. He's never bothered any other of the many plants I have but I don't think I want to take a chance. Maybe you could do some Googling using 'Adenium Obesum+propagation' for more information. Val |
