Am in Oregon where sun on the 1st day of Spring, but today is a
glorious treat. Blue skies, yard full of drifts of yellow and white
daffodils blooming their happy little hearts out - couldn't ask for
more beautiful weather. We're still far from our last frost date, but
today's respite from the bitter winter we've had this year is most
welcome.

Celebrating the day by potting up flats of flower & veggie seedlings I
started indoors on heat mats. Will be migrating them across the yard
to the nice warm greenhouse. These little babies and about 1,000 of
their friends are headed for a sale benefiting our local country vet's
"Angel Fund," so I'm especially pleased with the success I've had so
far.

Hoping the sun shines on all of us and makes our gardens grow :-)

We had a beautiful day here in PA also. It hit 70 degrees here with
many huge flocks of Canadian geese in the sky heading north. Sure nice
to see the sun shine again after a very gloomy winter.

had a bit of light flurries and cold winds for our first day of spring. still
overcast today but not complaining as we had fairly nice weather for our
march break.
saw some geese the other day to rich but not really large flocks
so they must be coming through overnight as they do sometimes in
our area.
have woke up a number of times over the years to the honk, honk, honk of
a huge bunch of geese that had landed on our pond overnight or really
early in the morning.
peeked in flower beds and tuliips are slowly coming up along with some
of daffodils.
way to go for growing your things for Angel Fund charity nancy , hope
u have really good luck and a great return on plants. good luck .

First day of spring in northern Missouri had us lookin' at 4 inches of
new snow. *But...today is nearly fifty and the stuff is rapidly going
where it belongs....by Tues, should be all gone and they then be
callin' for 60s and better. *Maybe our daffies will make an appearance
soon.

gone.

that's pretty good! I, too got inspired, but by Ann up in Mass.
saying something about planting peas on St. Patrick's day and went out
Friday and turned over about 44 cubic feet of area by hand with my
shovel, then me husband helped with tilling it and raking it with our
little old Mantis that took a bit of coaxing to get started, but once
she got her wind, she ran beautifully. We swapped off back and forth
with tilling and raking, and I later took the three packages of peas
outside and laid down the bullet-proof acrylic I use to stand on deep
tilled soil to keep from compacting it, laid down on it and planted
all those peas in the dark with only the light from the grocery store
and utility company that is up the street from our back yard. My
neighbor now thinks I'm full blown loony, but today all it did was
rain so I got those in just in time. Tomorrow calls for light snow
but warming to more Spring like temperatures here in Western
Tennessee. I picked all the daff's that I planted last fall to keep
them from freezing with the cold tonight, but there are plenty more
coming up that were already here. I can't wait to see what kinds they
are. And there's a nice little azalea bush that was here before me
who's flower's color will be a nice surprise soon enough. After the
little cold snap, I will prepare more garden for the red lettuce,
spinach and I really should have already planted the radishes, but I
still have plenty of time. The shallots, garlic and red onions I put
in last fall are already eight inches tall with greens! Think Spring!
(I figure we'll get frosts until at least the last of April around
here)
