Hydrangea arborescens 'Annabelle" - Annabelle is a stunning white
hydrangea, often producing heads over 10" in diameter. Unlike the
better known blue and pink hydrangeas (macrophyllas), Annabelle blooms
every year even after severe pruning or intensely cold winters. The
huge, white "drumstick" blooms appear in profusion without fail.

'Annabelle' makes a spectacular show in colder regions as well as very
warm ones.

This spectacular hydrangea is the one we recommend for customers in
colder climates because it flowers on the current year's growth. Cut
to the ground at the end of winter, it can achieve a height of six
feet and bear masses of huge rounded heads of white flowers up to ten
inches across. Uncut, the shrub can reach ten feet or more, but the
flower heads tend to be smaller. Regular Member price: 5 plants for
$39.95.

Early summer to midsummer bloom 10 ft.

'Snow Queen' Oakleaf Hydrangea which is more cold-hardy and has denser
flower clusters.

The Finest Oakleaf Hydrangea! A Wayside Original Introduction. William
Flemer, III, former President of New Jersey's prestigious Princeton
Nurseries, initially selected Hydrangea

Snow Queen as a species seedling displaying a unique range of
desirable ornamental characteristics. Since then, it has become a
premier shrub for four-season interest, demonstrating such superb
garden performance and spectacular beauty that many agree with us that
Snow Queen is perhaps the finest of all shrubs for American gardens.

The changing display of color, form, and texture is indeed impressive.

Spring sees the emergence of large, dark green, leathery leaves that
withstand hot sun, strong winds, and heavy rain.

In summer, when many shrubs look exhausted, Snow Queen is just
beginning its show, sporting imposing, elongated 12- to 15-inch
panicles of large, pure white blooms that gracefully mature to pink.
This shrub is remarkable both for the number of the bloom panicles it
produces and for its unique ability to hold them upright for a
magnificent presentation.

In fall, the foliage turns a sumptuous burgundy, and the tan-brown
bark, which exfoliates with age, begins developing interesting furrows
and patches.

In winter, the exposed bark and dried flowerheads create a stately
silhouette.

Of compact growth, Snow Queen reaches 5 to 7 feet with a similar
spread in 6 years, maturing to 10 to 12 feet. It thrives in both deep
shade and full sun. Highly pest- and disease-resistant. Truly a
remarkable plant worthy of inclusion in the most distinguished
gardens! Zones 5-8. Regular Member price: 5 plants for $39.95.

Hydrangea macrophylla 'Mariesii Perfecta' BLUE WAVE - Big leaf
hydrangea (H. macrophylla) is a deciduous shrub with a rounded habit
that, in the St. Louis area, typically grows 3-6' tall and as wide
unless damaged by harsh winters or pruned smaller. It generally
features dark green, serrate, obovate to elliptic leaves (4-8" long)
and large clusters of long-blooming summer flowers. Flowers appear in
two types or groups: (1) LACECAP GROUP which features flattened flower
clusters (corymbs) of small fertile florets with scattered showy
sterile florets often forming a marginal ring. Regular Member price: 5
plants for $39.95.

Height: 3 to 6 feet Width: 3 to 6 feet Bloom Color: Blue (acid soils),
lilac to pink (alkaline soil) Sun: Part shade Water: Medium moisture
Zone: 5 to 9

Group or mass in a sheltered location in the shrub border. Also a good
specimen or accent for protected locations near homes or patios.
