Default Flowering Crab Tree

I have 2 "Hopa" Flowering Crab trees that show no sign of buds this
year.
They were bought and planted last year with buds on them. They were in
pots and at least 2 years old. The buds which were in evidence when I
bought them turned to fruit the first saeson but this year nothing.
Although the trees are healthy and growing. I this usual/normal?
