Watched the Discovery Channel Show, Rally 'Round the House ( Yesterday,
5pm-6pm Pacific, June 5, 2004). The couple whose backyard was made over had
two toddling infants and wanted a more 'child-friendly' garden, but were
apparently clueless, and so were the people who did the show & makeover. I
wasn't paying close attention at first, and didn't get the couple's surname,
then I saw that the new landscaping was going to be heavy on azaleas, every
part of which is deadly poison. I watched the rest of the show carefully,
trying to get more information so that I could warn them, but they didn't give
the owners' last name. They live in Woodland Hills, California, which is in my
local calling zone, but I'm pretty sure my 3 attempts at getting the Woodland
Hills F.D. non-emergency # (prob. past hours, anyway, as it was when I tried my
city's) were outsourced to INDIA by Comcast (as so much is), and kept getting
goofed up. I thought I'd try the 'Net. ...By the end of the show, the kids
had been toddling all over the construction site among dangerous rubble, holes,
toxic materials & power tools, and the finished yard featured a unguarded &
coverless oddly-shaped pool and fire pit, a drowning-friendly water feature,
and all sorts of climb-and-go- splat hardscape. If you know these people,
please give them a clue about CHILD SAFETY. (Adult safety, too: Doin' things
the OSHA-nightmare way!) They sure' didn't get it from the 'experts' at
Discovery Channel.
