Default What Are These Insects Swarming Over The Lawn?

They are green and shaped like a Japanese beetle but larger. First
appeared three years ago; didn't see them the first 25 years living
here. They're going crazy, swarming, bouncing off the house, off
people as they walk on the lawn .....

As kids we used to see a green insect we called June bugs, but web
research shows that June bugs are brown. So what are these guys?
Thanx.

June beetles can also be green. From the a UKY web page:
Green June beetle populations are cyclical and populations were high
for several years about ten years ago. So I expect that we are likely
to fight these battles for a few years before the numbers decline.

You should see what they're doing in the Linden tree. It's a green bug
gang-bang out there...

Are you sure they aren't Japanese beetles? I hope they aren't, but is
there a bug specialist here who could enlighten us? Otherwise, the
market for Merit will go banannas next year as everyone tries to save their
lawns.

I have no idea what they are but they are a lovely iridescent green and have
the libido of fruit flies with a shortened life-span. They were on every
blossom we could see making whoopee like there was no tomorrow...
