Squirrels In Bid To Join Seven Wonders
=====================================
Vote for the white squirrels at:
*www.enjoyillinois.com/sevenwonders
Vote early. Vote often. HELP!
=====================================*
******Please help Olney's town mascot - the white squirrel -
become one of the Seven Wonders of Illinois, courtesy of a statewide
promotion by the Illinois Bureau of Tourism. The bureau divided the
state into seven regions, Chicago, Chicagoland, Northern, Central,
Western, Southern and Southwest, and took nominations for "your favorite
interesting, beautiful or just plain quirky Land of Lincoln
destinations" from each section during February on its website,
www.enjoyillinois.com.
************Enter Olney's albino squirrels. City
Clerk Belinda Henton, also known as "The Squirrel Lady", nominated the
squirrels for the honor after seeing the promotion on the state website.
"It said, 'Nominate a wonder of Illinois,' and I thought, 'Cool! That's
us!'" she said.
************The nominations were narrowed to 12
attractions for each region, and the bureau is collecting votes on the
attractions via the website.
************During the month of March, each of
the four weeks will double as rounds of elimination. The first week will
feature all 12 attractions, which will be whittled down to eight in the
second week, and then four in the third week. Finally, only two
attractions will be left to battle it out in the final week of the
month.
************The white squirrels face stiff
competition to become the Wonder for the Southern region. Voting will
continue until March 31, and voters can cast one vote per day, so Henton
urges supporters to continue visiting the website.
************Henton's early prediction is that
the squirrels will make it through the first rounds of the contest, but
the last weeks of voting would be crucial.
************When you cast your vote, you also
become eligible to enter to win a getaway to the winning Wonder of your
choice, as well as other prizes.
=====================================
For more information or to cast your vote, visit
www.enjoyillinois.com/sevenwonders.
=====================================
************The Seven Wonders will be announced
on the bureau's website on April 30.
=====================================
************GO SQUIRRELS!!!

Another Illinois Wonder worthy of your support - north of the precious
White Squirrel...
(not competing against each other)

We are a small State Historic that receives no tourism advertising.
We are 206 acres with a beautiful large Civilian Conservation Corps
built Lodge overlooking the Rock River in Illinois. The forested part
of out Site is also a Nature Preserve and will be a picture postcard
in a few weeks when all the spring wildflowers bloom. They carpet the
forest. We have a Nature Center we are renovating. We also have the
Hauberg Indian Museum which houses the artifacts and tells the story
of Black Hawk and the Sauk and Fox Indians who had one of the largest
Villages here on the North American Continent. We host over 6,000
school children a year in educational programs for free. All the other
sites in Western Illinois receive and have a large tourism budget and
tourism staff - we have none. This would mean a lot to our Site

Please help spread the word and vote for Black Hawk State Historic
Site. (home to many black and red squirrels!

Please vote each and every day through March 31

Here's the direct link to vote for Black Hawk
