Question Lawn Moss

Hi all, first post and very much a brand new garden person here. I'll refrain from using "gardener" yet as I've only got a small patch to work with and I know close to nothing - but you've got to learn somewhere right!

Anyway, I've got a small lawn in the back of the house, it gets maybe about 1/4 of the days sunshine from around 12:30 / 1pm to 6:00pm during the day. Unfortunately it is very patchy, and I have spent a small fortune so far on lawn seed, re-growth packets etc etc. I've read books etc but can't seem to get it to germinate.

I can tell that some has grown, and the amount of lawn food put on there has given what has grown an amazing green sheen to its colour. But considering this lawn isn't going to be anything other than somewhere for us to BBQ on and sit out there in the summer months I have a wacky idea to introduce a lawn moss to help cover up the patches.

Now, whilst this will probably bring shock to a lawn enthusiast (possibly!??) the lawn out the front of the house does suffer from lawn moss, but if you're willing to put up with it as a 'surface' to use and abuse then it works well as its nice and bouncy, hard wearing, I can practice golf shots on it as well LOL .

Would or could it be an idea to introduce this? And how would I go about doing it? Do I dig a patch from the front and let it spread, or do I have to get it from a garden centre?

Advice and help is oh so welcome.

Thanks all.
