Default Prewinter Scalping

I live in Texas and am wondering why landscapers are all scalping the
Bermuda before the it gets cold. Is this a good idea? I always
thought scalping was a bad idea.

Default Prewinter Scalping

Bermuda turns brown and dries, becoming a serious fire hazard. They
used to burn it off but most communities dont allow that anymore - only
true native folks know how to do that without setting the neighborhood
afire.
