Fragrant Phrags?
Are there any fragrant Phrags? I have a friend who is an experienced
orchid grower but who doesn't do newsgroups. She asked me to ask the question. I recall that there is one species that is reported to have some fragrance sometimes. (Phragmipedium schlimii) Has anyone here ever noticed any fragrance in any other Phrags? If so, which ones? Steve |

Steve The list of fragrant orchids put out by the Canadian Orchid Congress (http://www.canadianorchidcongress.ca/frag.html) says Phragmipedium lemoinierianum and schlimii are fragrant. Lemoinierianum is listed as "strong". -- Reka This is LIFE! It's not a rehearsal. Don't miss it! http://www.rolbox.it/hukari/index.html |

She also owns lemoinierianum and I believe she said it is in bloom right now. I'll have her give that a good nasal inspection. :-) Steve |

Some plants are only fragrant early in the day, others only when sun warmed. Some fragrances are not noticeable to everyone. So it could be the hour she checks or one of the fragrances that is not obtrusive to her. Good luck. SuE http://orchids.legolas.org/gallery/albums.php |
