darn that plant!
I was all ready to forgive the cochleanthes amazonica for all the bud
blasting and high maintenance. It had two visible buds, and one leaf sheath that looked suspiciously like another bud just might be hiding in there and fighting its way up. The humidity has been high, and I had come to believe that humidity had been the only or the main culprit in all prior bud blasting, so surely these would make it. Darn that plant! The riper of its two visible buds is bud blasting right now. Well, hopefully at least the other bud will make it. I got this orchid last November, since then it has bud blasted eight times (I think) and only one flower has actually developed. This plant is the moodiest, the most high strung, the most egoistical, the most demanding orchid! If it bud blasts on me again, I will really get angry with it. And then I suppose I will forgive it once it actually opens another flower. Oh well. But in much happier news: my Dtps Talitha's Gem semi-peloric opened its first flower for this season today (last year it had a total of 33 sequentially, really neat), and one of my big white Phals that I have had for three and a half years now is opening one of its monstrous buds tonight as well (these buds grow until I think, surely it must open already it's so big, and then they grow some more). So overall I have more reasons to be happy than angry, but ... that cochleanthes is just urrr@#!#! Joanna |
