O/T: Another Hurricane!?

Can you believe this? Hurricane Jeanne has a bulls eye on Port St. Lucie.
All plants in under cover again tomorrow. Rot is a problem. Hurricane
panels almost completely up. Mealies tried to invade, as did scale, but we
found 'em.

Yeesh. I haven't even got this cast off yet, and now it's time to get hurt
again, LOL.

Be well, all in the path. Kenni, batten down the hatches!

Without humor, we lose spirit:
You might be a Floridian if:_
You exhibit a slight twitch when introduced to anyone with the first
names of Bonnie, Charley, Frances or Ivan {or Jennie lol)
Your freezer never has more than $20 worth of food in it any given time
You're looking at paint swatches for the plywood on your windows, to
accent the house color
You think of your hall closet/saferoom as "cozy"
Your pool is more accurately described as "framed in" than "screened in"
Your freezer in the garage now only has homemade ice in it
You no longer worry about relatives visiting during the summer months
You, too, haven't heard back from the insurance adjuster
You now understand what that little "2% hurricane deductible" phrase
really means
You're putting a collage together on your driveway of roof shingles from
your neighborhood
You were once proud of your 16" electric chain saw
Your Street has more than 3 "NO WAKE" signs posted
You now own 5 large ice chests
Your parrot can now say" hammered," "pounded," and "hunker down"
You recognize people in line at the free ice, gas and plywood locations
You stop what you're doing and clap and wave when you see a convoy of
power company trucks come down your street
You're depressed when they don't stop
You have the personal cell phone numbers of the managers for plywood,
roofing supplies and generators at Home Depot on your speed dialer
You've spent more than $20 on "Tall white kitchen bags" to make your own
sand bags
You're considering upgrading your 16" to a 24" chainsaw
You know what "Bar chain oil" is
You're thinking of getting your wife the hardhat with the ear protector
and face shield for Christmas
You now think the $6000 whole house generator seems reasonable
You look forward to discussions about the merits of "cubed, block and
dry ice"
Your therapist refers to your condition as "generator envy"
You fight the urge to put on your winter coat and wool cap and parade
around in front of your picture window when you finally get power

This one (latest forecast) will hit between Vero & Sebastian--exactly

Wendy I feel so sorry for the folks in central coastal Florida they
have had a decades worth of bad storms in one season so far, we have
had tons of rain and some high wind but NOTHING like Diana and company
have had, this is insane...

Actually, Dave, we are lower than central here in PSL, and this part of the
East Coast got ravaged by Frances but we largely missed the others,
thankfully. The "Return of Ivan the Terrible" dumped about 50 inches of rain
over a week, but we never got the storm itself. Where Frank and I live is
about 10 miles inland and though we live on a canal we are high and dry - no
flooding. All things considered, we and most of our friends are very
fortunate. I know people who lost everything. Sometimes I feel that I
shouldn't joke about all of this, but humor has always kept me sane. No
point in a sour face!

Glad to see you back. I know what has happened to you, and it is
devastating. But think of the little octegenarian in the PSL OS who lost

I know it's tough, Kiddo, but without a smile it's impossible. This, too,

Exactly Right Diana, it is humor, even gallows humor, which permits us
to cope. Am well familiar with your area, used to live in South
Florida and collect reptiles all the way up and down the coast
including the PSL area. Also my alternate number in Jacksonville
covers all the way to Homestead from JAX on both coasts and the center
of the state, her territory has taken it on the chin damage wise and I
have had crews in the area doing damage restoral to our system. (CSX
Railroad Communications) One of my Tech's mother and dads home in PSL
was heavily damaged to the point they had to board up and move inland
to a relatives house. Good luck to all of you there.

Yep, it is now a Cat 3 (how's that for hurricane lingo?). We are as
battened down as we can be, safe room (laundry room) is equipped, Casper is
the Wonder Cat is barred from getting under a bed and his carrier is ready,
important papers in safe room along with meds, etc. Pray Jeanne does not hit
Cat 4, and pray for those in less safe buildings than ours.

And pray that we have enough booze to get through this mess, LOL!

Uh oh. We've got Wendy calling us "y'all"!

Diana

Insidious! Yep that's it! We here in the Southeast are a bad influence
on Wendy....

That's the kind of bad influence we can do with more of.

Looks like Diana and company have taken a direct hit, hope they are
doing well.

Folks Jeanne is now a Category 3 storm please take care of yourselves
first, Orchids, Homes, Property etc. can be replaced you guys are
irreplaceable. Good luck to all of you.

Diana & Frank, together as always

Oh my! I sure hope they are all ok? My hubby's cousin lives there in a
mobile home & they had to evacuate.
Still holding thumbs & crossing my fingers to cool the wrath
of mother nature.
Most of all, our prayers are with y'all.
