Fertilizer ratio with Hozon
What is the amount of fertilizer needed for one gallon of concentrated
solution in ounces? I am using the Hozon injector and Peters 30-10-10 Orchid Special. |

Hozons are supposed to work at 16:1, so once you've decided how much of that
fertilizer you want in your final solution, you simply mix 16X that in your concentrate. You can use my fertilizer calculator to determine the amount to use to get the final concentration you want. Personally I'd recommend about 100-150 ppm N. On a mass basis, the fertilizer is 30 weight percent nitrogen. Shooting for 125 ppm N concentration (0.0125 weight percent), you'd want the concentrate to be 0.0125 x 16 = 0.2% fertilizer powder, by weight. With water coming in at 8.337#/gal, then you'd be in the ballpark with 0.002 x 8.337# x 16#/oz = 0.267 ounces of fertilizer. Alternately, for a 30-10-10, 1/3 teaspoon per gallon will give about 125 ppm, so to make up a gallon of that concentrate, you'd need 1/3 x 16 = 5.33 teaspoons. I wouldn't worry about being too exact. Siphon-type mixers are not overly accurate or repeatable, so variations in your actual application will outweigh any small discrepancy in the concentrate. -- Ray Barkalow - First Rays Orchids - www.firstrays.com Plants, Supplies, Artwork, Books and Lots of Free Info! wrote in message oups.com...
