Default Spring on the way.........

It's Jan. 30th = just 2 more months and pond season begins where I live.
:-) The fish wake up and start moving around. The frogs and toads make
the scene and serenade us from late afternoon into the middle of the night.
It starts with the spring peepers we've heard as early as the end of Feb.
We have several types of frog here and all have their own song, their own
tempo, their own time to breed. Some breed all summer, their croaking heard
every night in their lovelorn quest to find a mate. They breed in any
water they can find. The plant propagation tubs fill with pollywogs and
many must be removed to the nearby lake or they starve. Since bullfrogs
eat fish all their young are moved to the lake as well.

The new 600g pool to grow out the best butterfly koi is ready to go. The
spot of earth cleaned off and the tarp laid. As soon as we get a few nice
days it will be set up and filled. It will also be home to a few favorite
water lilies which will also shade the water to help keep it cool. Our
summers can be torrid here. The filter will be another home made job from
the large plastic cases we got from a friend. It will be netted to keep out
the kingfishers, herons and other predators.

I can detect your excitement from here

===================================
I am excited! I checked out the big Aquarium store in Nashville today. He
has his koi tanks set up and ready to go. He had some pond stuff already
displayed but not much. He has one section set up for ponds in spring and
summer. He only had a few small koi in but they were indoors, probably left
over from last summer. I bought another nice aquarium plant. I never can
remember their names. There were some nice fancy goldfish in but I passed
due to no more indoor tank space. :-) I'm just itching to get out there
and play with my fish, garden and ponds - I'm like a big kid when it comes
to this stuff.
