Demo Pond News
We started up the demo pond filter today. Took the shade cloth off, no
algae, though water is a bit murky looking, hopefully the filter will clean it up quickly. Mice decided to nest in the filter foam, so 3 sheets had to be removed. ( Other than that, a quick vac of the rainwater into the shop vac and it was ready to go. After removing the shade cloth and boards we put bird netting over the top, about 6" to 2 ft off the surface. This is to discourage the ducks until the canals fill. Speaking of ducks and those that have experience with such. There is a 2 foot high rope fence around the pond so we stapled the netting to the top of the posts around the majority of it and then held about a 1/4th of it down to the ground with some rocks. One lady was telling that she was told the ducks would still walk underneath the netting. This would mean hopping the lower portion of the rope, or ducking under (no pun intended). Would the ducks do this? On a nice day people are walking through this area and I didn't think the ducks would want to find themselves trapped under that bird netting? There are, afterall, better places to go than this little 2,000 gallon pond. What say the duck experts? ~ jan See my ponds and filter design: http://users.owt.com/jjspond/ ~Keep 'em Wet!~ Tri-Cities WA Zone 7a To e-mail see website |
