Default Aquadyne bead filter question

I just bought an Aquadyne Bead Filter (Model 8.8c). In the top of the
filter I found a small piece of white PVC duck taped onto the internal
plumbing. It is about 4" long and beveled at the top. Written on it
in black marker is "this end up" and "glue here". I called the
company I bought it from and they said they have no idea what it is
for. They suggested I call the manufacturer on Monday, but I'm hoping
to hook up the filter this weekend since the pond is full of 10,000
gallons of water. Does anyone out there know how and where to install
this piece? It looks like it may fit between the top vertical pipe
and the cap, but I'm not sure. Also, do I glue it in or just set it
in place or what?
Any input would be much appreciated.
Thanks!
