Default Thanks to everyone for filter recs

My little 400 gallon pond finally got a clean bill of health from the
LFS water testing system (high nitrite, everything else normal).

Through the recommendations, I built my own fluidized sand filter (super
cheap, amazing performance) as well as a 33 gallon waste paper basket
suspended lava rock filter. For my small space, these two filters seem
to be the ticket.

That was the problem with my set up. I had no room for any of the fancy
filtration, and these solutions were nice and cheap.

Thanks to all again.

Carl
