Feeding plants with potash and epsom salts has helped green up the leaves a
little. Anyone suggest how to get the plants into growth. Many thanks. C.

What is your flow rate through the area with the plants? How deep is the
water? Have you had success with them before or is this the first time
you've done it? If your temperatures are a max of 62F (17C) then I would
think it is still too cold to be getting much growth. We have had much
warmer temps than that and my water hyacinth is just now getting a real
start.

my plants arent doing anything either which is why I get flower baskets at this time.

Nitrogen will start to reduce availability when PH are higher than
8.0.

Fill a tub with your pod water, put in a few Water cress, lower the PH
to between 6.5 and 7.5, wait a few days and see what is the result.

Or add some nitrogen into the tub water.

Thanks for your replies. The filter gets full sun and the flow rate is 500
gallons an hour. The filter is 12 inches deep and this is the second season
of poor growth.

You could also try some of your plants in a separate tub/pond with some
plant fertilizer and a better ph. See if they pick up. The fish should be
producing lots of fertilizer for you! Does algae thrive in your system?

I would say theres to much flow, 500 gallons an hour sounds hefty, any
chance of teeing off your flow so that flow is reduced somwhat?

Do a search for planted aquarium links. I put a home made mix in mine which
is nick named PMDD. I use this on a well lit Aquarium regularly. I have also
put it in my pond and it did not turn green.

Previous to these last two years was the veggie filter thriving? How large
is the pond you are pumping from? Usually you want to do the volume of the
pond per hour. I have a 7'X7'X~2' pond that I was pumping at 1200gal/hr
into the upper pond that is about 2.5'X2.5'X~2.5'... This I was pumping into
a small barrel liner at a very slow rate (with a little filter pump that at
most did 200gal/hr). The faster speed was a little rough on the plants but
they still did well and the upper little barrel liner thrived to the point
of becoming a solid mass of roots. Are you by any chance filtering the
water before you pump it into the veggie filter?
