You had me scared there for a minute Joe. I went to look at your pond pix
and thought that was blue water at the front of your pond, until I read the
caption Sure looks nice!

Don't supposed you could mail some of the Hyacinths to NC could ya? (They
probably wouldn't survive anyway)

Your pond development is amazing! I love the bridge addition!

Sigh, now I'm looking at our new pond, and thinking, Hmm.. I could always
add.......

I'd love some, but am just too far away (Hamilton, Ontario!). However, I
did want to complement you on your pond. It is gorgeous & has obviously
been a labour of love for you. Enjoy it!

Wow your outdoor "room" is awesome! Even the wintertime brings beauty with it.
I love the silence..... Thankyou for sharing your diary of pictures...

I sent some from California to several places out east and I think they
arrived mostly intact.

Gareee,

Where are you in NC? I'm in Durham and routinely give away WHs. (Taking =

a bagful over to the in-laws in Mebane tonight, in fact.) I don't offer =

to mail them simply because my working hours make it almost impossible=20
to get to the post office to mail them.

I'm in Waynesville. If you are familar with the are at ALL, we have a whole
lots of mountains, streams, and not a whole lot else. I was on the hunt for
Barley balls a few weeks ago, and never found anything locally (as far as
Asheville even) at all. Still haven;t check at Petsmart though, which was
recommended here.

The only source at all for any pond plants, is the preboxed ones at Wal-mart
(we got two plants a few weeks ago, and they seem to be growing well) I know
everyone recommends a ton of plants for a biofilter, but short of yanking
stuff from a local REAL pond, I'm at a loss there.

I did find peace lillies at the local Lowe's, but they are $5 a pop. I got 3
of them, and all seem to be doing well. My pond though, is about 12-13 feet
square, so it's plants now are a drop in the bucket.

Believe it or not I think I once had dinner at a decent italian=20
restaurant in Waynesville. (also about ten years ago)

I'm sorry I didn't realize you were from NC when I responded about th=20
ebarley. I believe I was the one (or at least one of) that suggested=20
Petsmart since that is where I found it. Petsmart also has some pond=20
plants. I was surprised to find that they are dry bulbs (tubers,=20
whatever) surrounded by what looks to be some kind of moss like I use=20
for my orchids all in a mesh sack. I bought an arrowhead lily from=20
there earlier this year on impulse and it's doing well.

To be honest, I tend to be the type of person that once I do research=20
and decide what I want, I rarely won't settle for anything else. Hence, =

beginning a couple of years ago, I started ordering plants by mail.=20
I've had creeping thyme and chocolate peppermint sent to me from=20
Washington State, roses from New England, a peach tree from the midwest, =

water hyacinth and floating heart from California, and the list goes on. =

I have yet to have any problems with the plants I have received.=20
Maybe I'm just lucky but I do only buy from companies that are=20
experienced in mail order. Plants are often a little smaller but have=20
always readily taken off as soon as they are potted, planted or dumped=20
in the pond using a modification of BV's patented planting technique=20
(subbing a glass of wine for the beer - hope I'm not violating copyright)=
=2E

Write me offline at the address munged at the bottom of this note. I=20
may be able to help you out.
