Is Blanketweed something different than Stringweed?

If yes how do you know the difference?
How do you control them? I know about the Koi clay ( Kitty litter) for
Stringweed.

I used some Kitty litter 4 days ago. the water is still clear as can be,
but the string weed is still there. It dose look better then before. I
think that it is only better because I have bin pulling it out by hand
using a toilet brush to roll it up. It is still on all the plant stem and
around the plant baskets and on rocks that I can't reach. I am afraid to
use the brush on the stems / baskets I don't want to damage the plans and
roots. I scrubbed the rocks on the water fall totally clean and I think it
is starting to come back. I can tell that it has started to stunt the
growth of all my plans. Help Rick

it is called blanket weed. It is basically the same thing.

There are 5 natural controls in a pond setting:

1) barley straw (it kills it)
2) snails & tadpoles (they eat it)
3) bacteria & enzyme treatments (they eat the dead algae and snail &
tadpole poop keeping it from settling to the bottom of the pond)
4) plants (they prevent it by consuming the nutrients that the algae
need)
5) shade such as water lilies (algae need sunlight)

Technically, string or hair algae is Cladophora, whereas blanketweed is
Oedogonium.

AlgaeFix by Pond Care claims to fix both as well as green water.

I've always thought the definition was (but I'm quite sure it is or becomes
a different type of algae considering how many there are), string algae is
the really Looooong stuff 2", under the water surface. When string algae
starts to float on top and form a mat, it's blanketweed. That is my
unscientific definition thereof. ;o) ~ jan

Don't know anything about water quality. it is crystal clear I can see the
bottom of my pond 30 inches or so. It has gotten better after I spend 45
minutes a day pulling and skimming. there must be a better way.
