Default Mustard Greens Questions

A garden is in north Louisiana, USA.

Background of question:

For past two years, bought mustard
green seeds at a seed and feed store
(not the little packages at supermkts).

Each and every planting, the seeds
went directly to flowering and seed
making, with small leaves.

Last fall, in one small corner of the
garden, I let a couple of plants go to
seed and allowed the see to fall where
they might, and left that small area
undisturbed. Where THOSE seeds
came up the plants made huge,
beautiful leaves, which I cut (rather
than pulling the plants up -- due to
their excellent production).

Seeds I purchased commercially, and
planted in the fall made tiny plants
that hardly produced enough leaf
surface to be worth picking.

Now, needless to say, I am letting all
those (and the few highly productive
plants) to go to seed, and am planning
to just let them fall where they may.
There is a difference in season, however.

QUESTION IS: Will the seeds that fall
now come up in summer? Or will they
wait to come up in fall? Should I
gather the seed (after the pods dry) and
plant them in fall to have big, beautiful
plants like those mentioned above?

Any information and advice appreciated.
