Default This summer and the crops

The flowers have done well and even the new border has managed to
excell. The pumpkins were laid in their patch in early June and cut off
when the fruits looked to be 2 to a plant. The advise given on waiting
until they were a bit larger before planting out was spot on.

The dim wet summer has meant that I've suffered a lot of blossom end rot
and mildew in that patch.

I've resigned myself to using fungicide, opened out the middle of the
patch by removing the worst affected leaves and putting in a spray
regime. I'm aware that I can't eat the flesh of the fruit since I used a
systemic spray, but mainly wanted them for carving. In the 25 square
feet I initially allowed there are two fairly hefty looking fruit on the
4 vines. I have a couple of fist sized fruit on trailers that are
outside the area that have put up female flowers and started to grow
fast. Is it worth helping thme along to October?

Last year's carvings were somewhat remarked upon
