I wonder why Chelsea coverage "has to appeal to a wider audience, not

for example, arrange for "Pot Black" to appeal to people who aren't
interested in snooker, do they?

Sailing is covered in terms of "look at all the pretty sails".

I look forward to this policy of wider appeal being applied to football
with the planting of herbaceous borders behind each goal, and during
televised matches Monty to come on at half-time and demonstrate grass
maintenance.

What you mean there isn't topless snooker yet? Wait only a few more

How strange. That's *precisely* the one I got! I have also written to
the
BBC.

Not strange at all. They'll have carefully drafted a standard letter and
be sending out to everyone ;-) The most you can hope for is a tailored
addition if you make a specific point that no one else has made.

gardeners". Going back to Janet's sporting analogies, they don't, for

I am afraid they do. The real hard core snooker fanatic audience is small.
Snooker became big when they could persuade millions to watch it now and
again. To do that they need exactly the same stuff that drives you nuts
about chelsea coverage.
It is shallow and glitzy and pulls in punters.

Chelsea coverage is grim and glitzy but once a year is easy entertainment.
It works because it pulls in big audiences who do not like latin names or
even know what latin is or care.
If Chelsea went technical, it would be much more fun for me to watch and
audiences would plummet.
It is a sad fact of growing old that more and more TV looks shallow like
this.
Bums on seats etc.
