When we moved to the house there was a massive cteeper that had invaded the
conifers, it was removed but leaps back 2/3 times a year. I know where it
pops up so catch it each time but by the time I find it it has grown to
about 20 ft high, it seems to grow like a rocket.

It has a very tough vine like stalk and grows straight up till it gets to
around that height then begins to wind into the trees.

Photo of the leaves here
http://www.kevsmith.demon.co.uk/Untitled-1.jpg

They are about 5 to 6 inches long and 1 1/2 wide. Glossy thick leaves and
very dark green. Would like to know what it is and the best way to get it
out. It grows up about 2 inches from the trunk of the trees.

Thanks in advance.

Looks like a clematis, you probably have not seen the flowers as you keep
cutting it back but it could be C armandii which is very nice and flowers in
the spring it can then be cut back and will grow a fresh set of stems to
flower the following year or it can be just left alone and would look
magnificent in the conifer.

OK I'll give it a try! Looking at pictures on the net it does seem like
that.

Thanks.

Clematis perhaps montana?
I grew one of these and a russian vine up my neighbours leylandii conifers.
It certainly brightened them up.

Wistaria also looks magnificent when flowering all over a few mature
leylandii.

It is not a wisteria, it is clearly a clematis.
