I have been coming to this group for a couple or three weeks now and am
finding many postings that have absolutely nothing to do with the subject
matter.

I suppose free speech and all that, but surely, there are more appropriate
places these idiots can go to to talk about whatever they want. Perhaps
they could even create their own newsgroup and go away and stop bothering
those who have something positive to say on the subject.

Perhaps this group needs a moderator. Flyng in the face of free speech, but
many of us don't have time for their junk.

Suggestions please.

Ignore them is my suggestion. The latest bunch appeared as crosspostings to
various other groups. They'll get bored. If you had been here a few months
ago, we were getting about 5000 posts full of gibberish every day. They got
bored in the end.

Try using your killfile.

Usenet tradition. If you ignore trolls they eventually die out. We
had very little of this sort of thing last year, it comes and goes.

Suggestions please.

Killfiles and filters help. Filtering on cross-posting removes the
worst problems. Just be grateful the emm-eye-five man is not an
urgler: he rather clogs up our sister group, the shedde.

You could set up a killfile for the authors of the articles, or kill the
subjects.

Don't know about anyone else but I'd prefer to be my own moderator. It's
pretty obvious which articles and threads are the crossposted junk and
you don't have to spend time reading any of it. Just highlight the items
concerned, or the whole thread as appropriate, then hit 'delete'. It
takes nanoseconds. For individuals that continually 'get your goat'
simply ignore or killfile them.

Ignoring them is the best policy. They are attention seeking nitwits and
usually fade back into the woodwork after a while if they get no responses
to their posts.

Agreed. Living proof that it is possible to have an IQ in negative
numbers.
