WildLife Sanctuary ideas please.
Hello all.
I have recently acquired a small plot of a few hectares of coastal (cliff top) land, and should like to maximize it's benefit to wildlife, in a relatively unmanaged environment. Countryside surrounding, with non intensive farming locally. Any hints, tips or ideas via email please. Mark |

You post to a newsgroup, you get replies to a newsgroup. It's only fair, you see? You certainly need to have some nettles - very useful to many species. Also some pond and/or a stream will give drinking water for birds and other creatures. Ideally, you should visit your local library or bookshop and get a book to for easy day-to-day reference. -- Brian |

The whole idea of groups is that we share info and ideas and that you should check in to get them. You will also receive a LOT more information that way, too because people will suggest, debate, argue and give you a lot more to chew on, basically. If you post to newsgroups on a topic suited to that group you should expect to read and receive replies there. From the pov of urg, it would help to know the location because that will affect what you plant, to some extent. Welsh mid coastal. I'm sure someone will be able to help you. What is the indigenous wildlife now? It helps to know that because it helps to know what you wish to attract or shelter. Are there trees and if so, which? What ground cover do you have and what does it consist of? Is the land grazed by sheep, cows or horses? Is any of it ploughed and cultivated and if so, what is grown there? Is the non intensive farming organic or are non-organic sprays used? If they are either, do you know which they are? -- Sacha www.hillhousenursery.co.uk South Devon http://www.discoverdartmoor.co.uk/ |
