a neighbour has just had a pine tree pruned and it looks really ugly to
me with the topped lopped off.

Somehow it does not look like a professional job. I would like to
post a photo i took of it, but am assuming its not allowed to post it
here in this group. Where could i post it for people to look at and
comment on please?

Go to: http://www.tinypic.com/
Upload your photo and the site will give you a URL that you can post
here.

hope i've done this right

Yep! However, if you remove the bracketed stuff at each end of the URL it
becomes clickable rather than cut-and-paste-able.
Pity it's a pine. Spruce can be shaped.

I have a feeling it will eventually grow back.
Playing with the pic supplied I found this view

May help someone identify it.

Still can't see it without joining.
I feel sure it is a cryptomeria, and will shoot out. In fact it is
often pruned into "cloud" shapes in Japanese gardens.
Perhaps that's what they are planning to do!
