Underground garden streams etc
The thread about underground water brings to my attention, an incident which
happened to me when I had a house in Leicester which ALL of you need to take notice of. 1930's house on quite a wide plot. Small brick garage stuck in the middle between house and boundary. I decided to pull it down and replace it with a double+ size one. "Better get planning permission first" 'Not granted' "Why?" 'There is a 36 inch main sewer running down your garden, 12 feet under the garage and into the road. We might need to get to it which if we allow you to put a garage there would make it impossible' "There is a garage on it now, built when the house was built in the 30's. You will have to pull that down if you wish to get to your sewer" 'Oh' "Tell you what, I will put a double garage there with a single span with doors at the front and the back and you can dig the floor up AND get to the back, which you cannot now, if you give me permission" 'Done' and the garage was built, how I wanted it :-)) WARNING Don't demolish first. Had I demolished the garage, they would have said NO Mike and no, we didn't know it was there and hadn't shown up on the searches :-(( -- .................................................. ..............
