Default advice on unhappy willow

my son has just been given a small willow tree in a pot. it looks decidedly
unhappy.

the leaves have gone a bit brown and limp. it has just a very few bright
green leaves on it.

could anyone suggest to a novice what might usefully be done please?

Might be root bound. Take it out and check, if so tease out the edges
and repot.

Otherwise, lots of water and sun. Possibly a little liquid fertilizer, but don't
over do it.

I would say that it is lack of water. Willow is a very thirsty plant, our hire stock needs to watered every day, even on cloudy days, with light rain.
