Default Beetroot leaves gone red

My beetroots where doing well earlier this year but now they have red leaves
and currant-sized beetroots. What causes this ?

Sun and low water levels.

Suggest you eat the leaves and forget the beetroot.

Try boiling a few but test to see if you like the taste.

lack of nutrients, 98% of mine are red too, except the ones planted
where the pile of seaweed was last winter.

I am growing them in a container. In May I had lovely beetroots then came
the rains and problem since then. I have sowed new seeds and they came up
then went red too.
I think I'll give it up as a lost cause till next year.
