Default Garage generator

Hi,

noticed some posts here on petrol generators, please? i have some relatives with a garage generator, which has worked smoothly for about 20 years, but they started it up the other evening, and it stopped. They can get it going, but always stops soon afterwards. They have cleaned the filters and are about the replace/change the oil and petrol. is there anything else which might be causing the generator to malfunction - is it possible to 'flood' the engine, like on a motorcycle, and what would be the remedy?

thanks

Dick
