Weed? Intentional?
Hello,
I'm having trouble identifying this plant: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3274/...4d2966.jpg?v=0 The place we've moved into has this stuff all over the place; rockeries, borders, shade, you name it. I haven't been here long enough to know if it flowers or not (those yellow flowers are from an adjacent plant). Any information, i.e. if this plant is beneficial for wildlife, if it's something I should yank out, etc., would be appreciated. Thanks! Lanna |

I'd wait to see it in flower next summer and then decide if you want to let it have its head or not. -- Sacha http://www.hillhousenursery.com South Devon (new website online) |

Thank you for your replies.
Here is a close-up of the leaves: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3157/...179227.jpg?v=0 It looks fairly close to the geranium mentioned, maybe a different species? Thanks, Lanna Quote:

There are also geraniums that self-seed, ornamental ones as well as wild ones like bloody cranesbill. But they aren't difficult to keep under control.

G.macorrhizum spreads and can work as ground cover. It is not a weed as such but you may have to periodically keep it at bay. You probably have some of the plant Sacha mentioned anyway. If not, get some. It is pretty and harmless and always seems to look right where it self seeds. Thanks, Lanna Dave Hill;818921 Wrote: |

The longer distance photo looked remarkably like A. mollis and that, with the spreading tendencies made me think of that. Some people think it's a nuisance, I think it's wonderful and the colour of its flowers sets off everything else and gives a sort of 'lift' to a border. -- Sacha http://www.hillhousenursery.com South Devon (new website online) |
