Does anyone else talk to their plants?
Conversation with Datura in heavy pot:
Me: "Come on, let's get you in for the night; It's a bit windy and I wouldn't like to see you get blown over. GET OUT OF THE WAY YOU BLOODY CAT!!! Here's a nice warm kitchen. That'll do 'till the morning." Datura: Speechless. Andy www.mycathatesyou.com |

However I would be rather concerned for the mental health of the gardener who said the plants replied back :-) I sometimes talk to my electric drill. The conversation usually goes along the lines of "Come on you useless cheap pile of **** do the ***** job you were supposed to do. Jesus ****** Christ!" My wife sometimes talks to kitchen appliances. Typically things like "Oh! You stupid thing - blah blah blah". I usually interject in defence of the said object saying that they are not known for their intelligence. However such comments are rarely well received. -- Drakanthus. (Spam filter: Include the word VB anywhere in the subject line or emails will never reach me.) |

And although they never complain, I get the feeling they are not impressed at my meager abilities.... Are they just being polite? Its possible I suppose.... Some people may think that its an idle passtime...But I think the wife is starting to catch on! |

My wife threatens non flowering plants that if they don't get their act together, they will end up on the compost heap. Result? 9 times out of 10, they are flowering within the month. My underachievers get told they can have a year to sort themselves out before their places are given to something more productive & *they* fetch up as fertiliser. Had the spirea & the peony working overtime to get themselves to their current states of perfection. Actually, you don't even need to say it out loud which enables you to maintain a facade of sanity amongst any humans in earshot ... just *think* it at the plant with sufficient force & direction & the message gets across .... -- Judy http://members.lycos.co.uk/bluelotusrising/index.html http://www.rigbys.demon.co.uk |

Andy www.mycathatesyou.com There is supposed scientific basis to talking to plants (1) the air is co2 enriched (2) plants grow better when they are in air currents.. But my favourite reasons a- it beats talking to hubby, either not told what I'm doing wrong or just plain ignored. Bell |

snip I can understand why talking to my cacti works. I don't recall actually talking to my cacti but I certainly thought good vibes to them when things went well. OTOH, the opuntia certainly showed their disapproval at being moved for shows, etc by attacking me at the slightest opportunity! They would then sit on the show bench grinning at me, knowing that they would have another chance on the way home. ;-) -- ned |

Does anyone else talk to their plants?
The message
from Judy Rigby contains these words: Actually, you don't even need to say it out loud which enables you to maintain a facade of sanity amongst any humans in earshot ... just *think* it at the plant with sufficient force & direction & the message gets across ... It works so well, that I never plant anything, or tend it, without thinking a silent positive encouragement to it. Don't know how it works but it does make a difference. Janet. |
