We've plenty here. In the field opposite after the snow, I thought the
two horses had spent the whole time near our fence! Then I realised it
was mole hills

Nevermind, you get good potting compost instead of manure :~)

yes I have used that but find it very heavy, must try mixing it with
something to lighten the texture maybe ?

Kate, try cat litter, but you have to get the correct (natural) type. I
believe Tesco's Premium is considered very good as a soil conditioner.

yes, lots. We always get an influx starting in October, but this year
does seem extraordinary.

Luckily mine have all decided to stay in the paddock none in the garden
at all, famous last words :-)

Yes, you are treading dangerously! Actually there have been no new
hills over the last few days here, so we may have one in one of the traps.

You really should inspect your traps once a day at the very least - they
don't always kill cleanly.

Fortunately I don't suffer, I'm surprised as there are fields at the bottom
of my garden.

My poor friend three miles away has been plagued by them in the past, she
hasn't mentioned them recently, though. It's not the molehills she minds
too much, it's the way they tunnel just under the surface of her lawn so the
roots die.

Worse, if you have dug in some nice wormworthy manure/compost, and you
water the tomatoes/marrows/w.h.y? well, first will come the worms, then
the moles, and you have a row of dead or dying plants.

Reminds me of when my godson's rabbit got out. The garden was well
fenced, but rabbit liked burrowing.

Rabbit went AWOL. I found the hole (Like the Channel Tunnel it was, for
rabbit was of the variety 'Belgian Hare') beside the fence.

Parallel with the fence on the neighbour's side was a line of cabbage
seedlings about three inches high. As I looked over, one of them
suddenly went underground...

I think that the water table is higher than usual, and they adapt by
moving to slightly higher ground. I know I would.

LOL!
After much thought my friend now traps the moles, although she doesn't
really want to.
Does anyone remember Jasper Carrot about his mole?
Tina
so glad I don't have one..
