Copper as slug deterrent?
AIUI, slugs cannot cross a Cu boundary.
Is there a source of, say, 3" diameter copper water pipe sawn off into 1" lengths that could be placed around transplanted seedlings? |

You can get large diameter copper tube, but I imagine you'd have to get a metalworker to cut it into sections. http://www.coppagutta.co.uk/ 2.4 metres of 60 mm diameter is around £40, so about 50p each, or 75p for the 120 mm size. Cheaper than the copper bands available, and maybe easier to use I've tried all sorts to deter the snails this Spring, based on what might be physically irritating. Rockwool and fibre mesh abrasive have failed, but maybe Velcro is worth a try. I've also noticed that they don't seem to like fencing or sheds, made from timber impregnated with preservative, so maybe that's a possibility. In that case it would have to be a chunky square box rather than a ring though. |

I forgot to order it last year, but I think it gave good (not perfect) results previously. |
