Default Mint Brown Spots / Bug

Hi

My spearmint, which was growing nice and healthily a few days ago, has got
several leaves which are covered in brown spots. On the underside of the
leaves (or most of the leaves with brown spots anyway) is a greeny-white bug
with some unidentifiable black material (kind of looks like the bodies of
crushed ants!) attached to it.

I've taken a picture of one of the offending leaves, which you can see he

I've read on one website that the only disease mint gets is rust, which is
described as orange and the pictures I've seen don't look like my leaves do.
So, I'm inclined to think it's these bugs that's causing the spots.

Does anyone know what the problem is and what I can do to stop it? I was
rather looking forward to some nice home made Mohitos this summer!

Regards
Bigus

There is a Mint Beetle but both the adults and larvae are black I
understood.

I can't quite tell from the picture but are you sure it's not mint
rust? Brownish-yellow spots on the underside of leaves.

Hi Bob
I live in Dorset and I also have identical looking bugs (complete with strange dead ant material) on my mint this year. In fact the mint has been decimated. Did you ever find out what these bugs are?
