Default slb wed problem

I have found the best way to get rid of algae weeds etc between paving stones is with a wire brush - chemicals do not seem to work -
Is there any suitable solution (to reduce the speed at which weeds algae come back between the slabs) which perhaps I can immerse the brush in when raking out the muck between the slabs ?
Your help please
