Default Thuja blackened leaves

Sorry if this message has been duplicated - I have just read the FAQ
on the etiquette of posting photos in newsgroups!

Could anyone tell me why the leaves on my Thuja Occidentalis Smaragd,
have blackened. It appears to be just on one side and near the bottom
of the tree, which is about 1.3 metre tall and soil planted.
I have posted a photo of the tree at;
http://www.zyworld.com/pauldreed/index.htm

Help please - This my favourite conifer!

Paul
