Default sick dwarf leylandii

I have a dwarf leylandii in a container the size of a bucket that has
branches near the bottom of the trunk that have gone brown dry and
crumbly. Does anyone know what causes this, and if there is a cure for
it

THANKS
ALAN KEARN
