Default drainage in boxes

I am going to make my wife a large raised bed for her salad plants as she
has trouble bending, but still likes to potter in the garden. This will be
very simply,a box on legs.Firstly do I line It with plastic and secondly do
I need to drill holes for drainage? As a matter of interest I got the idea
from an excellent magazine called Kitchen Garden I have just dicovered.
