Default Pond Lily problem

Can you help I have a lily which is growing reasonably well this year with
many buds. It does not open and gradualy falls away. It is in a
container and has bloomed well this last five years so what can I do about
it any ideas. Leslie

I should say that it is obviously in need of pulling out of the water,
breaking up (or cutting with a bread knife) into small plants and then
potting the plantlets on again. They are not any different to any other
garden plant in that respect.
