I have not counted the amount of OT threads here in URG, but find that there is
less and less about gardening !

The last straw was the 'diabetic bread' one. OK bread is made from wheat, which
I suppose could be grown in the garden..........but it's all a bit far removed

There's precious little of anything ATM, but as I have neither of these
threads I guess they fell into my spamtrap. I kill anything which is
crossposted to more than two groups.

Compared to most groups I frequent this is a hotbed of on-subject-related

I guess you could really stretch the rules and consider that his name is

You think *we're* wandering off topic? You should see our local garden centre -
well at least that's what it was 'til about 7 weeks ago. Took me 10 minutes today
to find *anything* garden related, the place is bulging with grossly overpriced
christmas tat and had been all through October and November. The garden stuff is
just shoved anyold how into a dark corner in the farthest depths of the place.
They pay me a good price for my honey though ;~)) .............then nearly double
it.

They are about as close to a fraud as it is possible to be without actually
being one. They effectively measure the electrical conductivity of the
soil, of which the moisture content is but one contributing cause..

I wanted one of those thingamabobs that show the moisture in the soil but

they were out of reach behind the Xmas baubles..........grrrrrrrr

They are about as close to a fraud as it is possible to be without actually
being one. They effectively measure the electrical conductivity of the
soil, of which the moisture content is but one contributing cause..

Possibly true but they do seem to work for me :~)
Do you know of a better / cheaper / more efficient method ?

Small and moderate pots: Feel the weight. One gets used to judging.
Large pots and open soil: Scrabble in it and see if it is moist an inch or
so beolw the surface.
