Default Lowly lilacs?

I am going to transplant a five foot lilac that has never bloomed in ten
years; tho' otherwise very healthy. Am going to place it in a hot sunny spot
(s/w corner) and hope the shock of transplanting does the trick. Otherwise,
does anyone have any helpful hints re. the transplant: fertilizer, etc. I
do recall that there was a famous Vicar, now undoubtedly dead, who wrote the
book on lilacs, but can't recall his name. Many thanks for any help on this
subject.
