Oxford builders back out
Statement in response to the announcement by Montpellier that it is
giving up work on the proposed Oxford animal research centre
Animal Aid welcomes the news that Montpellier, the building company
contracted to construct a new animal research laboratory at Oxford
University, has pulled out of the project. We only wish its decision
had been driven by a realisation that the proposed centre will cause
immense suffering to a large number of animals, while producing no
medical benefits for people.

Animal Aid is thoroughly committed to non-violent, non-intimidatory
campaigning, as are the vast majority of animal rights advocates. The
broad commitment to non-violence is made evident by our deep disgust
at the kind of Home Office-sanctioned cruelty that takes place in
animal labs, such as those proposed for Oxford. That animals are
deliberately poisoned, surgically mutilated, deprived of food and
water is bad enough. That such torments are claimed to point the way
towards cures for human diseases is a primitive and vicious falsehood.

For background information on animal experiments see Killing animals
and humans and our 2002 report, Bred to Suffer: animals as models of
human disease.

More and more scientists are beginning to question the validity of
animal experiments - but these same individuals are reluctant to 'come
out', for fear of the impact this would have on their career
prospects. Quite simply, animal experiments have become an ingrained
habit, with scientific careers and reputations established on the back
of them.

Some early media reports suggested that no experiments would take
place at the new Oxford University unit - it would be for housing
animals only. But this attempt at misinformation was exposed by
careful scrutiny of the plans submitted to the local authority. Oxford
needs, in future, to deal straight with the public. Moreover, it needs
to abandon its fixation on the 'animal model' and commit itself to
modern, human-centred scientific methods of research.

So I take it if you need medical treatment that involves drugs, you will

Another victim of the AR lie machine? See http://www.vare.org.uk for other
examples of the way AR extremists such as Ray use lies and the threat of
lies to terrorise decent honest people who refuse to accept the dishonest
propaganda ARists.

It speaks volumes to learn that you support actions like this - ref :

Last week the man, who wishes to remain anonymous, received a note headed:
"A serious warning from Animal Rights Activists."
It said: "If the company does not stop building the animal laboratory at
Oxford within one week a letter about you will mailed to hundreds of your
neighbours. This letter will make several allegations about your personal
life. It will also contain a forged criminal record showing a string of
sexual offences committed by yourself throughout your adult life."

Seems that UK AR activist standards of honesty and decency are no better in
their dealings outwith Usenet. Why doesn't that surprise me? The sooner
the lot of you are locked up the better!

A hearty well done to Animal Aid and co for their efforts in

educating
people on the abuse of animals.

So I take it if you need medical treatment that involves drugs, you

will
refuse on the basis that life saving drugs might have been tested on
animals?

Might? So which prescribed drugs have not been tested on animals?

Which
household cleaning products, etc. have not been safety tested on

animals?
Surely the answer is as close to none as makes no difference.

Do you ever take medication of any sort? If so, then the word
"hypocrisy"
spring to mind.

ARist, hypocrite, same difference.

Michael Saunby.

Another victim of the AR lie machine? See http://www.vare.org.uk for

other
examples of the way AR extremists such as Ray use lies and the threat of
lies to terrorise decent honest people who refuse to accept the dishonest
propaganda ARists.

It speaks volumes to learn that you support actions like this - ref :

QUOTE
Last week the man, who wishes to remain anonymous, received a note headed:
"A serious warning from Animal Rights Activists."
It said: "If the company does not stop building the animal laboratory at
Oxford within one week a letter about you will mailed to hundreds of your
neighbours. This letter will make several allegations about your personal
life. It will also contain a forged criminal record showing a string of
sexual offences committed by yourself throughout your adult life."

END QUOTE

Seems that UK AR activist standards of honesty and decency are no better

in
their dealings outwith Usenet. Why doesn't that surprise me? The sooner
the lot of you are locked up the better!

Michael Saunby

Never mind the links Micheal.

Let us deal with something a little closer to home. - Your lack of
integrity.

Last week you started a posting Subject header "This Battle Must Be Won"
21:7:04 on this newsgroup and several others.

During the ensuing thread which developed you made a serious mistatke, YOU
ACTUALLY TOLD THE TRUTH. [My lifestyle does involve killing for sport]
These words are yours Michael, they have not been distorted or changed and
are in the archives of 'Google' for all to see.

At this point Derek interjected with the following:

[ "I don't hunt."

Michael Saunby http://tinyurl.com/5ow8r

"Anyway, I don't hunt. I don't much care for hunting"
Michael Saunby http://tinyurl.com/62ubf

"**** off you ignorant ****. I've told you often enough
- I DON'T HUNT."
Michael Saunby http://tinyurl.com/4narw

You're just a damned liar, Saunby.]

As a reasonable person, I asked Derek to hang fire and give you time for
clarification of your statement. He kindly complied.

Subsequently, I gave you numerous opportunities to retract your statement as
the question of a typo was raised by your fellow Canadian deviant "Dutch". I
also gave you a list of alternatives to help you out of your quandary. My
kindness was not appreciated and indeed, I received nothing other than
abuse.

So Michael, we can only assume that you have a serious problem, you actually
take delight and pleasure from inflicting or watching animals suffer.

You are in no position to be critical of ARAs, in fact you are in no
position to post at all. Clearly you are mentally disturbed.

I have proved, with your help, you a-

A Liar
A Fraud
A Pervert

What more do you want?

If indeed you do want more I can also add masochist.

So starts the false allegation slinging

Too many miss the point. (sometimes quite deliberately in pursuit of their
views)

There are very few people who like the idea of killing animals for pleasure.
I and as do most civilised people, find the very idea abhorrent.

But sacrificing some animals for the greater good of another animal
species - humans - is a different matter altogether. Of course we need to
minimise the potential stress. But taking the argument its logical
conclusion, any predator animal, be it a lion, crocodile, human, must be
considered evil for the very reason that it is doing something that puts its
own survival before that of its prey. That is nonsense.

Of course, the true position is that if a lion does NOT kill other animals,
then it dies sooner than it needs to. If a human does NOT occasionally kill
other animals, it dies earlier than is necessary.

So isn't that exactly what humans are doing by experiments with animals? We
need/want to look after our own survival and the occasion arises when our
prey is just that - prey in the sense that killing these other animals helps
us stay alive longer.

Jack

A quite astonishing amount of drugs are used on pets. I forget the exact
figures but something like 15% of antibiotics are used for 'companion
animals'. I guess this is because they live mush shorter lives than
humans so several will reach old age, and need drugs, to each human.

Only problem with your argument is that the Lion only kills to feed itself.
Not as a means to develop some medicine or cosmetic lotion.

As you seem to place all animals in a pecking order here is a thought.
We kill enough fully functional placid animals for food. If we need to
experiment with drugs, their are thousands of dysfunctional animals that
prey on fellow animals, sitting in prisons all over the country. Why dont we
prey on these for research on medicine.

Not yet; but it should be enough for any sensible person to establish that
Ray is a liar, or at least prepared to lie big time to in an attempt to
struggle his way towards the moral high ground. A place he can only ever
dream about.
