Hello,

I am not a gardener and I think I have killed my bay tree

My wife and I got 2 bay trees for our wedding present, while my wife was in
hospital giving birth to our first child, I left the central heating on in
the house and forget to water /spry our bay trees, this was done on more
than 1 day, this has resulted in the leaves on one tree drying up.

The radiators in the room were turned off but as the whole heating was on
the room will have heated up.

The leaves on not brown, they are very light green.

So far I have done the following :

* Took the complete tree (without damaging the root ball) out of the pot and
soaked in water (advice from a friend), the soil soaked up a lot of water, I
then let all the excess drain away before putting back in pot.

* About 5 times a day I spry the trees.

As I did the trick with soaking the soil I was advised not to water, I was
told spraying will be enough.

The tree is left in the window.

Apart from the leaves the tree does look healthy, bark looks a good colour,
the branches that leaves come off look green.

Just after a spray the leaves do look better and don't crack, just before a
spray they do look very dry and do crack.

We would realy like to save the trees as they are a wedding present.

Hi Steve

It seems to me that you're doing all the right things - you have a good
advisor. I think the tree will start to put on new growth once the daylight
lengthens. They are quite tough things.

There'll be trouble if my other half lets anything like happen when I have
our first in July :-) although I'm sure that absentmindedness can be
forgiven at this sort of time. I'm sure you'll be glad of a
non-mind-stretching job like spraying once you've had no sleep for a month.
Please tell me it's not that bad.
