Default Rate of soil growth (deposition)

i came across this thread elsewhere and was curious to hear what the
opinions are for how much soil grows over time..naturally...
in the UK not USA..

Do any of you geology, biology or environmental nuts out there have a
ballpark
figuir on how much soil is created from rotting vegetation and
critters over 10
or 20 years?
I UNDERSTAND that this would vary greatly depending on the type of
area
(hardwoods vs pine forests, woodland vs prarie or open field, etc)
I'm just asking if anybody knows a a general rule for the approximate
amount of
years that are represented by one inch of soil in North America.
