Default Enviromower

I recently asked if anyone had any experience of
http://www.enviromower.co.uk/.

No one had direct experience but I took the plunge anway and thought I would
post a short review.

I had been looking at petrol driven mowers and compared with them it's
significantly lighter and gives the impression of being less sturdy - only
time will tell.

It seems to be a quite efficient grass cutter. Having always used an
electric flymo previously I hadn't experienced the freedom of not having to
worry about cutting the power supply. You can mow in ever decreasing
circles instead of going up and down! That made the whole process much
quicker, what had been taking maybe 45 minutes is now down to 30 (including
walking back and forth to the compost heap). I haven't got used to the
collector capacity yet and I keep waiting too long before emptying - there's
no way of telling (that I've managed to work out yet) when it's full.

I had been worried about whether the battery would last long enough to do
all the grass in one go. As the battery gets older this will probably
change but, so far, one charge has done the whole garden. Indeed, the
first use, it did more than the whole garden because there was a patch of
much longer grass than a lawn which I cut first using the strimmer
attachment and then again (because it was now short enough) with the mower.

I have only used it to cut to a quite long length so far. This week, I'll
try going a bit lower.

Oh, it's quiet. It's much quieter than even my old Flymo and compared with
my neighbours petrol machines it whispers!

I'm no safety expert but the cut off seems to work effectively and not
having to worry about the cable is a definite plus.

So, all in all, it seems to be efficient as a mower. I'm quite impressed
by the strimmer attachment. I have some doubts about how it will stand up
to long term use but my Flymo is now 15 years old and I'm not sure one is
any sturdier than the other so maybe I'm being unduly pessimistic. It's
easy to use, light and easy to manouvre.

If it has a drawback it's the length of time it takes to recharge (up to 12
hours) which means if you do have too much grass for one charge you'd have
to either stagger your cutting or buy more than one battery. But then,
that's the nature of the beast.
