Default fresh water aquarium

In my 29 gallon tank I have three fresh water plants. Recently, the leaves of these plants have been losing their green color and have become almost clear. They're nearly see through! Does anyone know the reason for this? I don't give these plants any food and don't know if I should. Please help!
