Default Magnolia Littlegem - shape and roots?

Can the magnolia littlegem be shaped like a standard to shade flowers
beneath it for an extremely hot corner?
And is there an invasive root system?

If so what dimensions?

Where do you live, Wendy? I just don't think that I'd pick a magnolia for "an
extremely hot corner" here in western Sydney. I'd want something a bit
tougher, or to add a wattle as a "nursemaid" plant for the magnolia.

Secondly, do you have a particular reason for wanting a (presumably small)
cultivar? A larger plant would offer you more shade.
