Default Reddish/Brown on Juniper

Hi all, Just noted that one of my Junipers has a reddish brown looking
deposit 'growing' on it. Deposit is soft and possible sticky. This tree was
obtained in a Holiday raffle last December, at this time it is the only tree
with this problem.

Questions:
1- What might this be?
2- What should/could I do about it on this tree?
3- What preventive measures should/could I take with my other trees?
4- If you know of this problem, is it Juniper specific?

Hopefully this is enough info to allow you to help me out!
